Default Power Surge in APR Stage 1 Tip *Not Boost Issue*

My stage 1 APR 5.0 2001.5 Tip has always surged at around 3K RPMs, but after installing a boost gauge I noticed that the boost actually ramps up to 15+ PSI almost a full second before the "Surge" of power. Any idea what is causing this? Its driving me nuts. I have heard that APR's power comes on all at once. Is this a software issue?

Thanks

Default apr is the smoothest stuff out there. it definitely doesn't come on all at once.

haven't heard of that, but maybe? any wayt to have an APR rep check it out?

oh, and it's obviously a boost issue, because I bet it doesn't do it stock. if it does it stock, then it's not a boost issue, but this is definitely a boost issue, or at least boost causes it to be more obvious

what maintenance have you done?

Default Well it doesn't do it stock, but I suspect that its timing/AFR related....

How else can it be showing 16 PSI but without much power, then all of the sudden take off still at 16 PSI?

Default Well, I do hear a whining, I always though it was typical turbo sound...

It's sounded the same for 50K miles.

Default This would be a deeper whine and definatley be able to hear the diff between that and the turbos....

try a vag and check the tranny see if there are any codes

Default No tranny codes. Could be the TC? I do notice a strange drop in RPMs between

2k-3K RPM occasionally, but car still accelerates and boost is constant. I always attributed this to the TC locking up.

Default

I should also point out that this only occurs at higher boost. At <10 psi, it seems fine.

Default that would be it slipping not locking up. Sounds like your tc seal could be going but....

Default Ummm, no. Sportec is smoother than APR 5.0 - at least on 91 oct. programming.

I got to use APR 5.0 for a little over a month before choosing Sportec. On Sportec programming, there are no surges whatsoever.
