Repost from a week ago. Just wanted to see if any other opinions are floating around.
Obviously a dealer visit is involved, but this looks really pricey. Several thousand $.
Not much in archives. Is this a rare problem?

Not certain. Dealer inspected and clunk is from a broken left motor mount (m).
But while in there, they discovered the prop shaft was loose and needed to be replaced. I'm stock, 110k miles and want to just maintain an operational car. Mount replacement is bad enough. When driving I could only discern the clunk from the mount - nothing else really felt odd.

You need some details. It could be hanger bearing, center U-joint or CV joints.
I know the u joint and CV joints can be replaced affordably. A good shop that specializes in driveline work can do anything to a driveshaft for less than a grand.
Also check some of the Audi salvage yards for a driveshaft. It could save you a bunch.

http://www.shokan.com</a
