Prototype 3 1/2" downpipes under construction

I finally got my SS flanges from the machine shop to build our new 3 1/2" race exhausts. If you can see in the picture, we use a 3 to 3/1/2" transition to open the exhaust coming out of the turbo hot housing. We use mandrel bent 3 1/2" tubing from Burns Stainless Steel to go back from there. On the prototype, I use slip joints to twist the bends around to get the correct spacing.
I am not making these for street cars because to really be effective, you will need twin 3 1/2" pipes all the way back and you have to modify the floor pans to get them to fit. The twin 3" downpipes that I will be making could be used into a single 4" pipe and used on a street car with minor modification of the floor board in one area.

Stupid rules... :P
You have to have an exhaust. I personally just run right off the DP's. No point in running pieces of heavy metal that decrease performance underneath my car. Unless, your a ***** and can't take the sound.

Re: Don when you drop the engine/trans what type of jack do you use, some sort of scissor platform?

Generally, we just pull the front bumper and front core support and hook up an engine hoist and pull it out the front. We have pulled it out the bottom, but we put the car on the lift and roll a specially built cart underneath it, set the car on it at about waist high, disconnect the subframe mounts etc., then just lift the car up....pretty easy.

Re: Prototype 3 1/2" downpipes under construction
Can it actually flow enough air to warrant a 3.5 inch pipe?
My twin turbo 3.0 doesnt flow more than the capacity of the 3" pipe @ 20 psi, IE, no backpressure..
