Sunday Poll: Have you ever stolen an S4/A4?

Avantugofast 11-23-2008 07:35 AM

yes all the time and i own an add'l security company

big bucks yo!!!

No but really that would suck to have to worry so much. I know it seems weird but i didn't start locking my car until about four months ago. Small towns FTW!

Alright let's hear some of you chime in here with your solutions...

I've looked into all the ways to protect my avant from theft, i.e. aftermarket security systems, kill switches, door handle mod, trunk monkey, etc. but I'd like to hear what everyone think is good "add'l security".

I've never had someone tell me about an aftermarket security system that they're really confident with. And besides, I don't really think I want "Alarm Installerz R Us" tearing my car apart. I've read about the alarm systems that are an add-on to a factory system, but I couldn't find any reviews for them and I couldn't find any information about them from the manufacturers.

As far as kill switches go, I've read that you have to really hide that sucker or else a thief will find it (and the other five you put in) and steal your car anyway. If I have to hide it that much, I'll be too lazy to use it very often or I'll have to rip apart my interior to install it.

I've done the door handle mod, though I didn't change the door handle - I'm glad I didn't put the lock-less handle on because when the battery died in my key fob, I had to reverse the mod in order to reprogram it.

Lojack sounds alright to me, but skeptics claim that even if the cops find your car in a quick 24 hours, you probably won't want what's left.

VIN-etching? Please, it may be good for an insurance discount, but not as a theft deterrent.

If I lived in Newark, sure, I'd get a steering wheel disk lock... but I'm not quite at that level of fear yet.

As of now, I keep my car in my garage whenever it's home, I work at a secure location, I'm generally careful about where I park, and my door lock has been disabled. Obviously a trunk monkey is in order, but does anyone have a better idea?
