Pulling the trigger on suspension still cant decide.....Suggestions?...
Lookin to pull the trigger on suspension cant decide. Coilovers vs. Shock spring combo. The coilovers im looking at are KW Varant 1's. They are ride height adjustable on the car, only problem is they are a little pricey.
Im also considering a Spring & Shock combo. I can get a set of APR sport springs for cheap, new - from a friend who owns SCR perfromance (where i get everything done). Then thinking just buy either a set of bilstein shocks or get the KW's Sport shocks. Not sure.
The S is for mostly street, but i have done a few tune/test track days and plan on doing more.
Questions: which is a better choice? Are coilovers incredibly rough on street vs. Spring and shock?
Are there are spring and shock combos that are ride height adjustable while on the car?
a friend said that bilstein makes a shock (grooved) that is? I didn't really believe it. But i am not sure.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Peace

you can get notched bilsteins....several tuners on here carry them. ECS also makes
a sleeve coilover system for the bilsteins. apr no longer makes roll controll springs since they started flying the stasis flag. not much KW V1 feedback in this forum from memory.

Coilovers are no different from springs & shocks except for the height adjustability.
Its going to depend on the specific spring and shock you are using (or that are supplied for the coilover).
The Bilstein shocks come with one groove(might be two for the rear shocks now) but you can have Bilstein or other companies (ECS, for example) machine you additional grooves so that you can set the height you want.

yup, and I could be persuaded to let them go at a great price...
the full set for something like the cost of just 2 shocks... to a good home ;-)

This is where I ended up setting them, with still room to move in either direction:

FYI, Bilstein's shocks now all come with a 2nd groove in them....
Originally Europe only got the two notches, but now the US does as well. Of course, it might not be where you want it, so then you'd still want ECS or similar to cut notches (or buy them notched from ECS already - they're on their website both ways).

I had Konis grooved by 2Bennett w/Eibachs - finally went to c/os..
To change ride height on a car w/grooved shocks, you have to completely remove the strut assembly - you'll get really good at removing and replacing your suspension, but its a PIA. Fyi, you will want to adjust ride height, if for no other reason than to compensate for spring sag - and all new springs will sag a little.
Coil overs are much easier to adjust. If you don't buy them now, you'll buy them later. Re brands, there's lots on info about H&R, Stasis, etc. here. There are also plenty of S4 guys in the Denver area that will likely let you ride in their cars so that you can judge the differences for yourself.
