Default Question on boost levels

Hi,

I was doing some exploring of boost levels in my 2000 S4 with Vag-com. I was watching block 115. With my APR EMCS in factory mode, I was peaking at about 1580 mbar at WOT. In stage 1 mode, I was peaking out at about 2010 mbar. Does this sound like result other people are getting?

Thanks,

Doug

Default Sounds healthy to me...

To get actual boost, you'd subtract 1000 mbar (1 bar) at sea level. So, the car is making ~.6 bar in factory mode and ~1 bar in Stage 1 mode... which is right on the money.

Default If I had boost leaks, would I be seeing less actual boost when stage 1 and stock?

Or just when I was in stage 1 and not in stock mode?

Thanks,

Doug

Default It depends...

A boost leak would cause the turbos to spin harder/faster to make the same amount of manifold pressure (actual boost). A small boost leak (small tear in a hose) probably won't show up, but the turbos would still be getting over-worked. A big boost leak (big tear in hose or hose popped off entirely) will show up... but if the car has been driven around for a while and has been pushed hard to see if there is a problem... then it'll probably be too late to save the turbos.

But any leaks should be more easily identified in Stage 1 mode since higher pressures will be harder to make if something's leaking... but it's also more damaging to test in Stage 1 mode if there is in fact a leak.

Default I have seen slightly higher boost levels, I peaked out (m)

around 2070 mBar, or 15.2 psi.

Default

to be exact you'd use 1013 mbar

2010 MB is just over 1 bar. You have to subtract 1 BAR for normal outside pressure.

Default That's a little confusing since 1 bar = 1000 mbar. But I think (m)

what you are stating is that after you take out the 1 bar for atmospheric pressure (1000 mbar) you are left with about 1 bar (1000 mbar) of boost.

Yes :-) What I'm saying is the Vag may show 2020 MB but it actually means 1020 MB+-
