just got an '01 S4 6-spd. all this talk about blown turbos and I just wanna double check after stfa's.

it was once stated that if you have to ask what the "dentist drill" sound sounds like, you don't have blown turbos (or dying turbos).

just checking, because I've never owned a turbo car before, and the spooling and wooshing is all new to me.

I believe that is still corect. Some turbo's produce some whine, this very faint "police siren" type of sound is normal, a blown turbo or going one is one producing a VERY audible grinding "dentist drill" noise or sometimes a very loud "tea pot whistle" noise. Search the forums, there should be a vid clip of a white S4 with blown turbo from a few months ago and that can help gauge the noise level.

Mine made the noise a little bit last week and the dealer is now replacing them now.
