RACED AN M3, FUNNY STORY
So this morning I was going to breakfast at the campus cafeteria (Sonoma State University) and I walked to my car to get my Student I.D. I noticed that there was a 2 door, 5 speed M3 parked next to my S4. I had seen this car around campus before and always wanted to race it. So I put I nice little note on his windshield suggesting that we meet at our cars around lunch time for some "spirited driving." Well, it was a bit damp from the rain last night. But I wasn't worried, thank you quattro. So we found a quiet strait away in Rohnert Park, and did about four runs. Well, I had smoked M3 for lunch today, four times!!!!!BURP!!!!! Gotta love my S4, there's a rematch scheduled for more "optimal weather conditions" as he put it. Good, now I get to smoke him again.

ya know...
there sure is a performance difference between different years of M3's.
Near as I can tell, the early coupe lightweights were capable of 13.7 1/4 miles stock and the 1999 could only do 14.6.
I was looking on Bimmer org and this guy was happy with having done 14.2 at the strip and some guy said he was doing 13.3 with a 4-door automatic M3...HAHAHAHA wow! where's the BS meter? I don't even think that would be possible with a supercharger.
It's like mustangs...some years would barely give a Civic Si a good race and others are S4 beaters...wacky.

Re: RACED AN M3, FUNNY STORY
Attended Sonoma State U myself, but I had an old Honda, which I loved. However, there was no way I was going to challenge anyone for any kind of race except fuel consumption--or lack thereof--in my '80 Accord.
I now have a Hibiscus red, 2000 S4, sliver alcantara/black onyx, Bose upgrade--and no one to race!
How's old SSU?
P.S. Does your S4 have a tendency to pull to the right under most driving conditions? Would appreciate your response via e-mail
Thanks.

True, all e36 M3's are not made equal. Different engine sizes in the early ones, plus
I think there was a 95 lightweight, longer M3 3.0L version, which since it didn't sell well, they stopped making. Later M3's were/are 3.2L.

I've noticed a pulling to the right also
I've been driving my Dad's S4 the past couple of days and have noticed there is always a slight pull to the right. What's up with that? Should he have it checked out?

The Lightweights were not any longer and they stopped selling them because they wanted to make them
a limited production car. They were the same car but stripped of extras such as A/C, radio, cruise control, sun roof, noise insulation, etc. All 95s came with the 3.0L and 96+ came with the 3.2L. Horsepower is almost identical between the two motors but the newer one has a bit more torque.
NASA Racer: Yes, it is possible for a 4 door M3 to run a 13.3 if it supercharged. The 14.6 time you quote for a 1999 probably came from an automatic convertible. They were a bit heavier and ran slower times. Other than that, the engine is the same from 96 onwards, so the car *should* be running the same times no matter which year it was produced.
