I started from a full stop, while he had the advantage of probably starting at a slow, 3-5mph roll. We were dead even (although his nose was about two feet in front of me) all the way to the top of third gear. And I mean dead even. Perfectly matched. No one lost, no one gained, through two gearchanges. Pretty uncanny.
Sigh. My resistance to chipping is slowly being eroded. Lordy help me! :-)

curious...
any clue whether or not the wagon had any mods?
Personally, I don't think stock vs stock, they are equal. The S4 should be faster since it has more low end torque. I'm assuming your comparison was from rolling start?

Dunno.
I dunno whether the Scoob was modded or not. I think the guy works where I do, so maybe I'll see him in the parking lot sometime.
The WRX had the advantage at the beginning; the light turned green as he was rolling to a stop, so he still had forward momentum when he took off. I was completely stopped, and I wan't expecting a race, so I launched normally, but stayed on it once I saw he was gonna make a run.

There is something wrong with this...
from a rolling start like 5 mph to 60 mph is slower than form a stand still based on the numbers published by car magazine.
The other things is the WRX wagons are slightly slower than the sedan (once again based on published number)
If you launch the car well, there should be no contest against any WRX.
I am not trying to say anything about your driving/lauch techniques but I don't believe the WRX is even with the S4.
My results was different from yours.
And when you do decide to go with a chip, i'm sure your runs will be very different. Cheers!
