Ready to buy 2001 S4 - need advice
I'm seeing and test driving a 2001 S4 with 40k miles this weekend. I've been looking for a low miles S4 for some time and this one seems to fit the bill. It's silver with clean title although the front and rear bumpers have been replaced. It has sport and cold weather package and tiptronic. Original owner with service receipts, body and interior in good shape.
Kelly blue book for good condition, private party is $19,375. Edmunds is $14,177 - $15,567 depending on selling/buying.
Any opinions on what a "fair" price is assuming car is in good shape?
Also what should I be on the look out for when I inspect car? I know about TBB, BPV and F-hose. I don't know if these items are accessible during an inspection (with no tools).
I have thought about having the car professionally inspected by independent mechanic (car is in Monterey, CA area). How important is this given miles on car.
Any other buying/inspection tips would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

some advice....
Are all maintenance records available? How was it cared for? How often was the oli changed and what sort of oil? Why were the bumpers replaced? I don't think there's an f-hose on the tip, and the BpVs and TBB are minor things in the grand scheme anyway. I recommend taking it to someone who knows the car.

Re: is it a 01.0 or 01.5?
Sorry for noob question, but how do I tell?
My search of archives only indicates turbo oil line change, badges, etc. but I would know which is which.
Do the 2001.5's start at a certain VIN number?
