reasons for misfires, plugs are brandnew IK22's and misfires occured on stocks aswell..

after my new turbos were installed I have been getting a weird idle. However the tach doesn't move, it only sounds as if the car is reving sporadically. I keep getting CEL's because of the misfires and then they go away if I dont clear them.

coilpack? output stage (aka ignition amplifier)?

Which cylinder(s) are misfiring?

What are the plugs gapped at?

M3KILR 11-18-2003 07:00 PM

3 and 5 come to mind aswell as 6 possibly..random cylinder misfires

M3KILR 11-18-2003 07:02 PM

pregapped...this happened on the stockers so I don't think its the plugs, but...

before the turbo swap it wouldn't throw a CEL just misfire codes

If your getting a CEL, then it's probably a coil pack heading south.

The old plugs might have been ready for a swap...

leading to the misfire codes. Improperly gapped Denso's will lead to misfires as well. PaJohn went through this...do a search, and see where he finally gapped his plugs. If your plugs are gapped at that setting, double check them...don't take it for granted that they are correct.

I believe that would rule out the ignition amplifier, had this problem on a 1.8t, it was always the

same cylinder. You could try moving the coilpacks around to try and isolate the problem. Since you thinks it's multiple cylinders, seem odd that you would have more than one coilpack fail at once.

will do thanks
