Default Redline Products?

Sometimes STFA's can be confusing....I've read so much crap about Tranny fluids that I've confused myself.

So let me see if I have this straight, and correct me if I'm wrong. I've read that GL-4 should be used in the Tranny and GL-5 in the rear diff.

The Redline products that are most recommended are:

Rear Diff = 75W90 Gear oil
Transaxle = MT90

Now here are my questions....anyone use the
RL Synthetic D4 ATF for the transaxle. I realize that ATF is for Automatic transmissions but I on my previous car the coctail of choice had some ATF in it which contained a friction modifier in it, and it really made a difference. I realize that most redline products contain these modifiers but I read that the Synthetic ATF is a good choice for long term usage while maintaining the GL4 spec and is better for cold weather usage.

I've heard that some are using ShockProof for the rear diff but others have said its not wise. Which is it?

Sorry for the long post but just trying to figure this all out before posting?

Default Yea I gathered that much from reading in the archives -->

Though I'm looking for a bit more information as to why those work the best. I'm not like most others who will just accept a plain answer of this is how it is just because everyone else runs these. I'm just trying to make sense of everything that I have read.

Default Some people have used Royal Purple and swear by it too...

They are both good products. If you're feeling uneasy about these brands, go to your dealer and have them put in whatever they use.

Default Thanks...

Not uneasy about brands or anything I'm just curious what experiences people have had that lead them to believe that this combination is the best.

Default Re: MTL is thinner than MT90 and probably a better choice for the Audi transmission.

I just changed my transmission fluid and used MTL. The feel in summer months is identical to the stock fluid. I haven't had a chance to experience it in winter yet. But there were initially general problems with stiff shifting on this transmission so Audi started putting a thinner fluid in the transmissions (see the archives). I don't think you want to go with a thicker fluid.

I don't see the big advantage to using an ultra-thin fluid in the differential if you aren't racing and therefore concerned with minimising friction losses at any cost.

I recently put in Redline in my tranny and have not noticed a difference.
