Default regarding my previous post about driver's side timing cover-VW and AUDI same part #, BUT

they are NOT the same part .
just came back from the vw dealer, and looked at it (the vw part) and like i thought ,it did not have the mounting points for the intake pipe (the small slot and the srew ) and it had monting clips , not screws all around it.

That's weird. Guess we have to be careful using VW parts.

Default another important thing TB related.. Jason@streetwerke also mentioned this..

when changing the timing belt tensioner use the stock bolt with lock-tight on it , i bought one individually from the dealer , and this one has a 8.8 sheer resistance (alen bolt - number is on the head) and the required sheer resistance is 10.8 or 10.9 (much stronger) . now i'm not sure what most kits come with.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2045042.phtml</a

Default just etka and visually today . i didn't have both next to eachother...

to compare the part numbers. but i'm pretty sure there should be a difference if that part is purchased from audi as and s4 replacement part.

Default Are you sure you got the right part?

What part number did you buy?

VW and Audi use the same parts system, so it should be impossible for two different parts to share the same number.

Default Typically have to stay within the same brand/division on these to assure the parts are the same

between models ie Audi has a "global" part inventory and simply doesn't carry some unique parts in territories where the model/car isn't sold(example RS4 engine mounts). There are some shared parts that are the same per platform like the B5 Passat and B5 A4 platforms however they have different parts bin bases, one of the reasons ETKA and ETOS make you select a brand before searching for parts.

Makes it fun when you're trying to determine which Passat came with the non-fluid tranny mounts(ala RS4 and now updated S4 T mounts) without actually ordering a few sets. They carry a different PN on the VW side.
