removing the Bose-filters sounds SOOOO much better. I don't even need my Bazooka tube. It's amazing!

Heh, I taught S4MadMan that trick ;-)
It really makes a huge difference. Everyone should try it before thinking of upgrading their stereo, because, even coming from a competition background, it made it "good enough" for me, especially given that I want to neither go through the labor or expense of putting that kind of a system in the car.

You need a VAG tool. Bose filters out some of the bass and treble because...
they think their speakers sound better if they do. Removing these filters sends a cleaner flatter signal to the amp/speakers. It is espcially noticable if you have an aftermarket stereo setup in your car.
If you want instructions on how to do this, do a search for KentL's post(s) about it. It seems to have become a hot topic over the last few days.

As they say, no highs, no lows, must be Bose...
Bose's filters emphasize the mid-bass and vocal ranges, because they are the ranges that are typically missing in most sound systems the average consumer hears. Because of that, a lot of people think Bose is a better quality sound, although if you look at the response plots of any of the Bose systems, they're horrible.

One gotcha -- for some reason on most cars, you have to shut the car off for it to "take".
Just turning the radio off isn't enough. (ie, recode the radio, then shut the car completely off, and then turn the radio back on.)
