Default rpms stay up after letting of gas?

so today as i was leaving my house, i noticed that every time i shifted the rpms would stay or even go up 100rpms instead of droping, so i put it in neutral and reved it, the rpms would stay or go up a little for about 1 second then start to drop. then later in the day this problem stopped. and it hasnt come back. anyone know what to do if it happens again?

i have been hearing a knocking sound that im guessing is a tranny mount or something, could that have anything to do with it?
