Default RS4 K04 inlet pipes are taller than S4, causing stock Y-pipe to be higher and not bolt down?

My friend just called me and said that his mechanic just put in his RS4 K04 inlet pipes and K04 turbos, but now as he's installing the stock S4 Ypipe, rubber boots, and upper inlet pipes, they sit higher by about an inch and the Y-pipe won't sit correctly on the engine so it can bolt down. Has anyone heard about this? Does he have to modify the upper inlet pipes? He said the lower inlet pipes fit perfect to the turbos and bolted to the engine, so he doubts any install issues there. Isn't this what the AWE kit does? Does it sit higher as well, or modify upper inlets, etc? I didn't think any modification was needed. ???

As Brian said, no modification needed. Everything bolts up at same height btwn S4 and RS4 y-pipe.

He doesn't have the RS4 Ypipe, just K04 turbos and RS4 lower inlet pipes

Default so maybe the S4 upper inlet pipe in not seating down into the lower RS4 inlet pipe all the way?

It's just an O-Ring connection, right?

Thanks Todd!

Default Did he get all four pieces of the RS4 inlet pipes?

Two pieces are horizontal and slide over the turbo inlets, the other two are vertical and connect to the Y-Pipe.

Default Just the lower two, which I thought was what everyone said was needed - that you could reuse the S4

upper inlet pipes. I specifically asked this question before, and was told only the lower two were needed. Do you think that info was incorrect.

Todd, could you comment? The AWE kit only has the lower 2 inlet pipes, and the upper two inlet pipes are reused from the S4, correct?

Default The awe kit picture has them all

<img src="http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/gallery/awe_rsk04/awe_rsk04_kit.jpg">

I'm sure the S4 upper pipes can be made to work, but I haven't tried it to know if it can be done without cutting. Chopping it off to the right length and using a piece of rubber hose with clamps to join it should "work". Probably a good idea to swap them out for the rs4 pipes later.

Quick Reply: RS4 K04 inlet pipes are taller than S4, causing stock Y-pipe to be higher and not bolt down?
