S4 guys.. how about the Audi Allroad?
there's a V8 300hp model and a V6 250hp. What do you guys think of it? Did you consider it at all? I know it's not as sporty as the S4..
Reason is, I'm doing research on it and may consider getting it as 2nd car.
The navigation on it just CD based? About how much do you think it costs, new vs. used?
Thanks in advance.

Re: S4 guys.. how about the Audi Allroad?
We bought a new allroad a year ago, and just picked up an S4 Avant (used, of course) last week! Here are our thoughts:
- The S4 has a much sportier "feel" to it (as you'd noted) - firmer feel to the controls (steering, clutch, brakes) as well as a firmer suspension (stock, even).
- The allroad definitely has more room (as you'd expect), both in the passenger area and in the hatch.
- We haven't taken the allroad off-road yet, but the adjustable suspension definitely helps out over very bad pavement. It was great in the deep snow last winter too - just bump it up to 3 or 4 and you're on your way! (Dedicated snow tires helped too!)
- The new V8 allroad is only available with the tiptronic tranny; for us, at least, that was a deal-breaker. If you want the 6-speed, you'll have to go for the 2.7T.
- The 2.7T might be more fun anyway, since with chip tuning you can get at least as much power as the V8.
- Used 6-speed allroads seem to be fairly rare; if you're willing to go tip then you have more used ones available. Prices seem to start in the low-to-mid $30k's for high-mileage '01s. For low-mileage '02 cars you're talking closer to $40k.
- We think that the two cars complement each other nicely. The allroad makes a good family hauler (we have two small children) and the S4 makes a good commuter car.
- Don't know about the nav system. FWIW most used ones don't seem to have it.
Good luck,
- Bob T.

about the engine choices....
Keep in mind that the A6 with the 2.7T is FASTER to 60mph (dunno about quarter) than the same car with the 4.2L V8.
Peak horsepower is one thing; a big fat broad horsepower curve is quite another. The 2.7T has much more performance than its peak HP would seem to indicate.
