S4 intake, revisted...
Ok, so I know everyone is saying the 'sandblaster' sound is from the exhaust, but today I was barrelling past my work and a friend was outside, and when I got back he said "Damn, your car sounds evil with that fierce intake-sucking noise!"
So I'm wondering if it's all exhaust, or also some intake restriction...
has anyone done any REAL calculations on whether or not the stock snorkel is too restrictive or not?
Just trying to help my baby breathe better ;-)

The snorkel helps more than it hurts.
I can't see a point where there would be too much of a restriction.....it's just a...pipe. I guess the 2 screws that hold it down cause some turbulance though!! =)
Help your baby breathe by: 1) Adding an exhaust 2) Get the AWE intake 3)....NACA DUCTS. =)
-Cheng

i was'nt gonna say NOTHIN.....
AAH WHO AM I KIDDING. =)
Yeah i guess it could have more SURFACE AREA to move MORE AIR into the intake...but i don't see much room for it....
NACA duct.....
-Cheng

narrow opening expanding to large exit...that’s how to increase airflow...
simply dumping alot of air into a system for cooling is LESS efficient than a little, properly managed, air.
The NACA scoop uses Bernouli’s principal that a fluid’s pressure goes DOWN as it’s speed increases. If you design your cooling so the a small intake is expanded to a large exhaust, the low pressure behind the intake will create suction to keep the system flowing.
This is why I believe a good hood EXHAUST vent would do more for cooling the engine than putting any more air INTO the bay. As far as the intake for the engine, it would be beneficial as long as the mixture was able to adjust properly to the different pressure of the air.

"Sandblaster" label used for more than one sound, unfortunately!
The original use, by An(other)drew Lee, was to describe the sound from the rear of the car, the restricted exhaust. That sound does go away with an exhaust upgrade. From the outside, it could've sound like a loud "suck", also.
