Default S4 Questions: Sounds like a problem to me.

Car: 2000 S4, 6 speed, Built 04/00, 20+k miles. Still under factory warranty.

1) Short-lived metallic clanking sounds when switching off engine. Sounds like Turbs vibrating while spooling down. Is this normal or should I be concerned ? What should I do if this is not normal ?

2) Yet another metallic clanking sound while moving from stationary in 1st or 2nd and not giving it enough throttle. Does not occur if enough gas is given.

3) Car is built in 04/00. Do I have the bad problematic turbos ? If so, are they under warranty and free to replace ?

Apart from these concerns, the car drives smoothly and does not have power loss.

Thanks in advance.

Default 1) normal 2) sounds like normal tranny sounds 3) Yes and Yes

I would not be concerned at all. These are all normal. Enjoy your car and don't let these worries get in the way of that!! Should anything negative happen, your warranty will be there.

Default Do I just go to any Audi dealer and say "REPLACE !" ?

Really, do I just call any Audi dealer, make an appointment and basically leave it to them to replace the Turbs, free of any charges ? Even if there's really nothing wrong with them at the moment ?

Any other items for a built in 04/00 model that might need replacing, fixing, tweaking that anyone is aware of so that I can get them all done at the same time ?

Thanks !

Default No, there needs to be something wrong with them.

It was not a recall, so you can't just make them replace them ;-)

There are plenty of cars out there with no turbo problems..

#2 could be a heat shield problem

Default well, since he said "not giving it enough throttle" That rules out the heat shield

which only happens under heavy or wide open throttle.

I can reproduce that clunking sound on any 6spd S4. However, under normal driving it doesn't happen, but if you mess around with the gears with light or no gas, you get that clanking sound. It is just the car going in and out of gear slower than it's meant to. that's all it is!

Default Not really, that's exactly how mine behaved...

You heard it at low speed while feathering the throttle. Not at high speed or WOT. Depending on WHICH heat shield, and where/how it breaks, the symptoms would be different. Mine was the turbo/exhaust manifold heat shield, and his description fits it.
