Default While it may be properly set prior to shipment,.....

being in a box, with the pressure plate "unloaded" as in, it's not installed on a flywheel, there's little to hold it in the proper setting. Vibrations from the UPS truck, while it's unloaded, or being dropped, can cause it to adjust slightly, and be in a semi-worn position.

Default Interesting... How much pressure do you have to use to be able to bring it back?

In other words, do you have to have a press...

Default designing a method of holding the proper adjustment in place during shipment is the responsibility..

of the company that makes the product. At the very LEAST they should include instructions to make sure this is checked before installation. Unless I decide I can do this myself, I'm out the cost of another clutch job, another flywheel resurface, and possibly the cost of a new pressure plate.

Default yes....

Here is my clutch when new:
Notice the high side of the wedge is just showing at the left side of the holes (along the bottom side of pic):

and here it is when I pulled it out (now the low side of the wedge has come in from the right side of the holes (again, along the lower part of the pic):

Default I'd say a press is the most ideal method......

but theoretically, if you were careful, you could be creative, say, use the weight of your car.....but I don't recommend it.

I agree. There could be a "remove prior to install" device to hold it in place.

Default Good post Mat. I got rid of the SAC altogether to avoid all associated issues....

Some clutches have the SAC disabled to avoid them moving/adjusting during hard launches. In general, that is a good thing. Unfortunately, I had a SPEC clutch with it adjusted too far down when it was pinned. This caused a problem when trying to disengage with the new clutch.

Notice the 3 silver pin heads, which prevent adjusting. Also notice the wedge is already adjusted downwards as if there was some wear, but there was not. Thus too much engagement:

I've since moved to a pressure plate design that does not have an SAC at all:

Default Ditto. No SAC here either.
