S4 Service maintenance question?

S4 Service maintenance question?
Does anyone know what the service intervals are for the S4. My salesman said I should wait till 8000 miles before bring her in for service. This is too long. The car say 3000 miles on the computer for the next service. I've got 1200 miles already.
Any suggestions as to when to service etc?<p>'00 Black S4 6 Speed

Your salesman is right.
If you check your manual, it'll say the first service is at 8,000 miles. However, I would take it in to have them reset the service indicator.
BTW, I would suggest that you don't change the oil any sooner for your first service. There's a good chance that the oil is a "break-in" oil to properly break-in your engine. After that, you can change the oil as often as you like. The way I see it, it's not going to harm your engine if it's running on the oil that it came with, but you run the chance of not letting your engine break in properly if you take that oil out.<p>Andrew Lee

Re: Your salesman is right.
I haven't been able to find anybody that can confirm there is such a thing as break-in oil. Seems to be an urban myth or based on somrthing VW did years ago. Manual says 8000 miles or 6 mos whichever comes first. The latter is what your warranty is based on.

There is no "magic break-in additive"
It's regular oil. If you think about it from a business standpoint it makes sense:
Audi pays for maintenance during the warranty period, after that you're on your own. If anything breaks during warranty, it's repaired. If after warranty, no soup for you!
Changing oil every 3-4k miles is an American thing. The rest of the world goes much longer. Why? Because they don't put as many miles on as we do. We want cars to last forever. Now, leaving an oil in too long isn't probably going to cause damage that would show up during the warranty period (the only thing Audi cares about). So, if they can save the money of less frequent oil changes, more power to them. If there's something really wrong with the car usually, it will show up within the first 8-10k miles....not later. Changing oil frequently is a longevity precaution...not a short-term "my car won't run" problem. It saves them money; plain and simple. There is no magic additive.
