S4R Sighting!
Hallo Hallo...
Saw a black S4R yesterday in Scottsdale AZ. Still had the window sticker on it... driver was so excited he was roaring around with his right blinker going... is this anyone on the list?
The car was MAGNIFICENT. Oh do I have S4 lust now! (Are these US legal, grey market, or what?)

Not an official Audi model....
What you saw was not an "official" Audi model. It's an S4 that a dealership (Scottsdale Audi?) modifies and then "re-badges" into something they call an S4R (or something like that). Don't confuse this with the Audi RS4 which is not currently sold in the U.S.

Re: S4R Sighting!
Scottsdale Audi has always been fond of having a "tuner" car on their lot to draw traffic. Until the S4, they would tune A4 1.8Ts and call them "A4-R"s. To their credit, they also run their modified Audis in local events.
The "S4R" is a Scottsdale Audi moniker -- not an official Audi vehicle as Andy stated -- and is basically an S4 with sport springs, larger sway bars, exhaust and intake mods, the DTM-style rear wing (which is awful), some pinstriping (again - awful), and other cosmetic stuff. When I was in for service recently, the "S4R" was on the floor and sticker was near $50K (!) -- and I don't even think it had an aftermarket chip (at that time).
I think it's cool that Scottsdale Audi is "tuner friendly" and go as far as to sell modified new vehicles. But the convention of renaming them is lame. (Reminds me of silly dealer practices like the "Cactus Edition" Sentras being sold in the valley once)

Re: S4R Sighting! (Now I understand)
Many thanks for the well thought-out responses... now the light dawns! Funny, I thought it was strange to see such a wonderful car being driven so badly: that it's not something appealing to the Audi cogniscenti explains the poor technique. ;-]
