Is the S6 Avant coming to the US going to have a 6 spd option? The write up on AW home page just...

I'd be curious to see the numbers behind the decision.
Buyers of the A6 may not want manual enough or Audi doesn't sell enough manuals to warrant it, even though I would not want it any other way. The % of cars with manual transmission has plummeted in the US in the past 10 years, from 12% to less than 5%, while in Europe it's remained fairly stable and much higher, like 50%. I think it was in Wards I read that many performance cars even have sharply dropping manual transmission buyers. It sucks yes.

You're right, but Audi and BMW hold a pretty large contingent of manual customers...
which would lead me to believe that they would include a manual option on their "performance" vehicles...as s4me2 said...they just don't get it!

I'm with you. Manual is the way to go when driving a 'sports' car...
Even though I know that the technology behind automatics will one day surpass the advantage manuals now enjoy, as an old fart, I'll stick with manuals. I don't feel connected to the driving experience unless I'm moving a true shifter in concert with a clutch pedal, brake and the gas.
Maybe it was the same Ward's data, but I think I heard that 70% of the Porsches bought in this country now come with some form of auto transmission...absolutely criminal.
I was kind of hoping Audi would bring over the real deal S6 Saloon with the 6 speed. I'm looking to move up in size. Guess it will have to be the M5.
