Selling my S4 and getting a GTI
Hi guys,
Thinking about selling the old S4 and getting a mkv gti. What do you guys think? Need something smaller (engine) to save on gas and something with a warranty, something fast to satisfy the huge VOID the s4 will leave, going to miss the damn thing if I get the nerve to sell it.
Any thoughts? I don't plan to do much to the gti, chip, exhaust, suspension, wheels, air upgrades probably, thats it.
Thanks

I drove a basic 2.5L MkV Jetta and was hugely impressed. I'm sure the MkV GTI is great. It's a good
replacement for the S4. If I wasn't as wedded to my S4, I would do it too.

i drove a DSG revo chipped mk5GTI last month, a blast
fast and small and great sound too. handles like something out of this world in the turns...until the rain and snow comes..then you'll miss quattro a tiny bit and the clearance too...

I go back and forth all the time...
looks don't do it for me, at all. I'd almost rather have a leftover B7 2.0t and mod that. Probably same/similar money in the long run. Unless you're talking about buying a year or so old gti, they drop like rocks it seems, mid teens all day long now.

I was so so disappointed when I got rid of the B5. Got an '08 GTI in the winter...
and I love this car more every day. I was really skeptical about FWD but I honestly barely notice it. Zero torque steer, and the car handles great. Mine is mostly stock too, at this point (I got the 18" Hufs, no pics with them though). I Sometimes think that for $23k I could have gotten an STi or something that really rips, but there is nothing like a brand new car, and nothing in that price range with the quality of this car (imo). The interior is pretty nice especially if you get the leather. Mods are plentiful too, which is great. I currently do about 70% highway driving and have never seen below 29mpg. If you take it easy you can get above 26mpg around town no problem. In 7 months and almost 7k miles, I haven't been to the dealer for anything other than the 5k maintenance and inspection. Couldn't be happier.
Just saw this post and had to put in my 2 cents.<ul><li><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZTHuuBO9JI">Top Gear MKV GTI review</a></li></ul>

Wow, exactly the kind of review I was looking, thanks for that! I am also skeptical about FWD.
The olny hang up I have is the looks, it just looks a little too short.
If I get one few years older, like 06 and with 20 odd k miles left, I am probably looking at $18k. Which is not bad, 2 more years or 20 odd k miles of factory warranty.

You should look for an '07 if you can, there are a couple nice but small updates.
I like the shortness, the overhangs are very small which makes it look nice and aggressive. Oh and the interior space is incredible for something that looks so small, the back seat is huge and maybe a bit more spacious than the B5 (even has rear air!). If you plan on modding, check out the vortex. It gets a bad rep here, and yes there are a few knuckleheads and some with strange taste, but they offer good info. I've seen stock turbo cars pushing 300whp and beyond.
