Default Serious day for Imola.

The insurance estimate FINALLY came in. The adjuster did not have the 2000 audis in his database, so he "assumed" the 1999 a4 has the same front components. Headlamp assembly, $279.

A joke. $6500.00 total.

So, the body shop manager and I went over the car, to make the corrections. Unfortunately, his sharp eyes picked up things I had missed. Both motor mounts are broken, I was not familiar with how they looked normally.

In the most serious discovery, he found where the power steering pump was impacted, and broke the mounting point on the engine block.

He then had them put the front up on jack stands. Both transmission mounts are also broken, sheared off. He is concerned about this because he had an A4 in a few months ago with the same sheared off mounts, and "assumed" replacing the mounts was the only thing needed, but after all other repairs, they went to remove the remains of the mounts, and found the threaded bosses in the tranny case had been cracked.

He is scheduling a new meeting with the appraiser. Meanwhile, my salesman called me as he had "heard" that my car was totaled. Not yet true, but not a good day, all in all.
Jim De Arras

Broken mounting point on the engine block? Hate to say it Jim but that sounds terminal. I used to work at a car dealership. Vehicles with engine damage were usually totaled. : (

[hat in hand] Sorry to hear that Jim.
donp - '00 S4 Silver/Silver

Default Ha ha ha.....Exactly. Glad you're alright but I would try and have that thing totalled.

It will never be the same and will only **** you off! Believe me on this one. Also, with the damage you have....you should consider whether or not the car would be safe in another accident once repaired? I am Electrical and not Mechanical Engineer but I know once that metal has stressed, it doesn't have the strength it once had.........damn, education gets into everything.

Default My vote as well for totalling, S4's do not like front impacts like that.

Sorry to hear this Jim. You've put so much love into that car, it's hard to stand by and watch.

Default That is a joke.... there's no way that's only $6500

My damage seemed less than yours with no airbag deploying and it cost over twice as much.

Deploying airbags will at least cost about $1000-$1500 per airbag and that's just for starters. Broken engine and tranny mounts? Forget about it! I hope it does get totalled so you can get yourself into a new imola, no offense to your injured imola.
WIN A BOTTLE OF LANGKA

Default I was at $12,000 on a '96 Camry LE V6 when I went into a telephone pole...

Both airbags and a new dash were like $4000. Broken axle, potential transmission damage, engine mounts, and of course the front bumper/hood/windshield/radiater, power steering were shot. Insurance co. treated me like a champ and promptly totaled it just out of the fear of hidden damage (USAA -- get them if you want to be treated right when you have a claim; every claim I've ever had (several, both auto and personal) was PROMPTLY paid and I received more than I would have taken on every single claim I've ever had with them without having to haggle). The car only had 3500 miles on it at the time, but the great insurance check paved the way for the first A4.
