Should I have beat this Jetta?

I went off 3 times against my buddies 01 Jetta 1.8 T with a custom six speed tranny with short throw and short armature, APR software, 007DV, Stainless Header with highflow cat and full Neuspeed exhaust. He also has H&R coilovers and swaybars. We went from stand still and at 80mph I had a car length on him. I know that I dotn have a chip because I just cracked the ECU. HE was so pathetic about his loss that I almost felt bad for him.

is your car a manual tranny... You should have been able to destroy him. No way a jetta can manage m
id 5's 0-60.You should have tooken him by 4-5 car lenghts 0-80 and after that your gone.

Re: Unless he actually has APR Stage III, you should have beaten him by considerably more.
I know he doesnt have the KO4 but he has all kinds of crap done to his car and has lightened the car considerably.
The Jetta went to the races last night and took a Lancer Evo 8 to funky town four out of five times. He also beat a C5 Corvette. The fact that he took the evo and could not take me is what I am wondering about. My other buddy was driving the Evo and he is really spot on with that car so I know it wasnt driver error.

Re: is your car a manual tranny...
The car is manual and I am still learning to drive/ launch it. The car takes a little longer to get up to full boost up here at 5000 feet so the 0-60 times are a little longer. That is what gave him any chance off the line. His turbo spooled up a little faster due to the chip and gave him a bit of a shot but once my two bad boys got up to max boost it was on. After we got moving I missed a shift into second and still beat him pretty bad but not more than 2-3 car lengths.

Well I informed him of how badly you all say I should have beat him and that made him feel better. I just ran the throttle adaption and the car seems to be a little more responsive. I took the K&N that the car came with out and threw it away, replaced with a factory filter. The car feels a little more responsive now. I think I will get the chip here in the near future and not tell him though. That should make him feel like dirt.

If your car is stock, then that acutally sounds about right.
From reading your post, sounds like your friend has a 6 speed tranny w/ APR chip, downpipe, cat-back and some kind of air inlet mod. That's enough to put one of those cars in the low 14s to very high 13s @ 95-97mph. A friend of mine with a golf with the stock 5 speed tranny was running mid to high 13s on his stock turbos and pump gas.
