are the side airbags on our cars linked to the seat airbags??

are the side airbags on our cars linked to the seat airbags??
are they connected tot he side pillar airbags?
I got in a accident, not sure the extent of damage but i hit the side pillar with my head due to the airbag not deploying.

im wondering if it didnt go off since you dont have a module or sensor in that side
