From the Quattro Club website, but in short, NO and YES, kinda
"As of August 1996, Audi introduced a new coolant that is designed for all-aluminum engines. The advantages of this coolant is that it lasts the service life of the engine, never needing to be flushed. Some of the other advantages of this coolant are better corrosion protection, improved heat transfer control and it is environment friendly.
This coolant must never be mixed with any other colored coolant. Contamination of this fluid can cause the fluid to become corrosive causing damage to the engine. If the coolant is a purple or brown color and has foamy deposits in the coolant tank, the fluid has been contaminated.
This new coolant (part # G012 A8DA1) is the only coolant to be used in the A8 or else engine damage can result!
This new coolant can be used in older cars when the original coolant is drained and the cooling system is properly flushed."
Do a search. There were some post just in the past few days on this topic. There are, iirc, a limited number of other coolants that are compatible, but I'd go with the G12 to be on the safe side. To top off, you can use Distilled water too.
