Snapped timing belt
Hi, I have found an S4 engine which I'm considering buying for the building of a project car, my problem is this: The engine is out of a crashed S4. In the crash the timing belt snapped so engine is going fairly cheap. the heads have not been removed (yet) so it is impossible to tell what damage has been done. Has any one experianced this, is the worst that can happen is a few valves get bent or do cylinder heads and or cams/Cranks break???
Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated many regards,
Doug

I think it's just the valves / head, but I'm not sure.
if it's a project though, you could get it for cheap + then build it up anyways. I doubt the crank's gone, but a piston or two surely is.

if its a project though
aren't you going to be replacing the heads with something larger maybe?
i would think you should be fine because you are going to build the engine as a project, right?

The engine could have piston damage, scored cylinder walls, bent crank, etc. etc, etc. all unlikely
but possible. I wouldn't spend $500 on that motor when you could buy a perfect condition used longblock with turbos for around 3-3500.

All depends what the "project" is.
If you're going into the heads and bottom end anyway, get the 500 motor. Even if the cylinder walls are scored, you can always bore and sleeve the block.

Re: All depends what the "project" is.
The project is to convert to 2WD (Rear) and sqeeze it into a VW Corrado! in a bid to make the fastest Corrado in the UK. It will need to do 0-60 in 4.5 and on to over 160!
whats the max speed you can get out of these 'beasts' then?
