which snow tires? what size? (on 17" avus wheels)
In the absence of any advice to the contrary, I'm planning on getting Dunlop Winter Sport M2s, 225/45-17.
Anyone have any other thoughts? Pirelli fans? Should I go 205/50-17?
I anticipate doing some snow driving, not necessarily a huge amount. Maybe a trip or two to the Lake Tahoe area. Maybe driving around Boston, southern-mid Vermont, etc. I do want something that handles well in the dry.
Additional data points: I have the Intrax springs, Koni shocks, so I'm lowered a bit. I also have Stoptechs. I know that the suspension, the brakes, and the stock wheels can live happily together with 225/45-17s, because that's the way things were for a while. I don't see a prob with 205/50-17 either.
Thanks for any info.

General rule is "narrower is better", however ...
... if you don't plan on doing a great deal of driving in the snow, using ths OE 225/45/17 size will be fine.
That said, I was looking at the WinterSports last year and Eddie@TireRack recommended Bridgestone Blizzak LM22s. I went with the 'Zaks and was very happy. They offered adequate dry handling capability, excellent grip in snow (so-so on ice), and weren't as noisy as I expected. I was also impressed with their handling characteristics in warmer temps (above 50°.

i drive my s-4 in alaska which has snow on the roads 6 months a year. i run bridgestone blizzak lm-22 205 50r17 studdless and absolutely love them. i ran the same tires on my tt before i traded it in for the s-4. it is 45 miles of very twisty highway to the ski area (where i go 4 times a week) and routinely drive that rouad 65 plus in bad weather and have never felt out of control. also, if you get a dry spell there not that bad on dry roads either.
