Default Horsepower has nothing to do with engine speed...

it is a simple mathmatical formula where engine speed is related to ground speed. You could put a 115 hp Golf engine in your S4 and it would be at exactly the same rpm's at a certain speed as it is now (it would just take significantly LONGER to reach that speed). It's the gearing, NOT the power that determines engine speed. Now, perhaps you think that 6th gear could be a little taller to cruise at a lower RPM, but 3k isn't that much, and lands you right at the beginning of the meat of the torque band, overcomming what little turbo-lag the S4 has.

Default Thanks for an intelligent answer.:-)

I actually had to argue once with a porche trained machanic that the ratio between engine speed and wheel speed - in any given gear - did not vary with load. Amazing.

Oh yea, with*out* a torque converter or bands :-)
