but about 6 months ago the head unit was replaced, so the code sticker in my owner's manual was useless. so i call the dealership...and they don't have the new code on file. so now i have to schedule some time to drive down there (about an hour away) so that these morons can do 'something' (use some special device to unlock it? install a new one?) i guess. i'm fvcking pissed.

heck don't be pissed at the dealer you should have asked for it ......
are you sure they didn't hand it to you and you placed it in the manual somewhere or in the glove box?
I had my radio replaced 3 times and everytime the sticker was stapled to my workorder.

They have to physically plug your car into their computer... I just went through this.
They use to have a data base where they could give out codes. But for some reason or another AoA changed this, and now the car has to be present get the code.
I had some harsh words for my dealer and this is what they told me. My service advisor is very straight forward, so I have no reason not to beleive this.
