and you want to "play around" a little, what is your normal rpm range.
While cruising home tonight, and playing with a blown E30 M3, I noticed that if I kept the rpms up around 4k I had access to far more power...shifting at around 5500.
So can I run for an extended period ( a few minutes) at a steady 4000 - 4500 rpm?
Since chipping has brought with it far more low end grunt, I tend to shift early...under 4000, but life is far more fun about 4000!

well how i have always found my shift points is to get a good dyno graph for your car or one with similar mods and where you see the hp and torque curves meet is your shift point. I dont remember where i learned this but it has always worked for me. on my s4 with a stage one APR ecu i tend to find the best shift point is right around 5800RPM. exactly where the two curves intersect. just my $.02.

Your car is fine above 4K...
If I'm playing, I'll typically downshift so I'm around 3500 rpms. I'll usually upshift around 6K...power drops off pretty quick above that (I only have a chip).

Um, horsepower is equal to torque at 5252 rpm. Torque is greater than horsepower below 5252 rpm, and hp > tq above 5252 rpm. On every engine. Always.
