So, why does my Tiptronic loaner feel faster than my 6-speed?
When I step on the gas, the power feels like it's right there. Strange.
Also, another question.. this loaner S4's engine seems much quieter and smoother than mine. Does running 0W-40 contribute to extra engine noise?
I've also been to a couple driving schools.. another contributor?

In my experience, it's because 1st is so short on the 6 speed and the throw to second is sooooo long
So if you aren't quick on the 6 speed, it seems a lot slower. I suppose if one really sucks at driving it might actually BE slower.

Ah you got it!
The manual can be a bit on the slow side for the reasons you mentioned (short 1st., slow into 2nd.) unless you get on it like mad!
I try to stay in between so I don't look rushed by applying a little final burst on 1st just before going into 2nd, usually resulting in a strong start without the buckling, just smooth and imperceptible speed change for other drivers/cars.
