It's an easy DIY, a normal spring compressor works fine.

Default is it easy? i thought it would be, but have never seen a write-up. Isnt it a very dangerous job if

youve never done it before (because of the compressed springs i guess)? Thanks

Default you don't need it just impact gun and towel - zip-zip-pop and done -->

wrap spring/shock in towel/blanket, aim away from you (make sure you have a couple feet of clear space, impact gun on high/reverse, zip off bolt, there will be small pop but blanket/towel will keep everything nice and mellow...i do it this way all the time but your shop experience may vary

I have the single bolt "beartrap" spring compressor, almost as quick with my impact gun

Default It is easy for any shop...

There is nothing special about the S4. Remove shocks, compress spring, remove retainer, install new spring, put back on car.

Default There's a really good writeup in the Tech section that I used for doing my wife's Passat...

and friend's MkIV golf. Spring compressors are a bit unerving at first but you get over it pretty quickly after the first go-round.

Do a search for "Coilover Suspension Installation" by Frank Sheperson in the Tech area and you can get a sense of what's required.

Now that's a sight I want to see... From a distance. Please use spring compressors.
