Default Stasis Motorsports (Ohlins) installed... Install pics and first impressions inside

First I have to say that these things are works of art. I almost felt bad putting my dirty old Tracksport 700/800 springs on them! I also can't believe how light the shocks are. When the box came I thought that something was left out!

The install went pretty smooth. The biggest problem the guys at VAG Motorsport ran into was locating the reservoirs. They could just not fit them in the suggested location. They improvised a bit and it looks like it will hold up for now.

Aside from mounting the canisters, the front shocks went in pretty easily. Please excuse the dirty springs and wheel wells :/

Driver front:

One thing that isn't so obvious in these pics is that the braided lines are rubbing against the spring perch and spring a little bit. I stopped at Home Depot on the way home and picked up some 1/2 inch diameter vinyl tubing that I'll slide over the braids and zip-tie in place tomorrow.

Driver front #2:

I also plan on spraying everything down with some Boeshield T-9 for a bit of corrosion protection.

Passenger front:

The only hitch in the back was getting the spacers for the top shock mount installed. My mechanics solved that issue by enlarging the old adjustment holes for my tracksports so that they could reach in there.

Passenger rear:

Also, you'll notice that a large section of the rear shock mount was cut off to accomodate the inverted shock setup of the Ohlins.

First driving impressions: Well, its too early to tell... Ok, who am I kidding... these things are killer. I can't believe that these are the same springs I had on my Trackports a while ago. The ride is EXTREMELY comfortable, and I haven't even changed any of the settings yet. They were installed as they came. So far the around town and highway driving is amazing. This setup just soaks up road irregularities and refuses to be thrown off balance. There is no porpoising, no harshness, no body roll.

I'd say without a doubt that I finally got what I was looking for. The turning performance and go-kart feeling of a Tracksport setup with 700/800 springs on full stiff rebound settings, and the straight line ride comfort of a Tracksport setup with 550/650 springs on medium rebound settings. In fact, the ride quality might be a tad better since it just stays so planted.

I know people say an Ohlins setup is overkill for the street, but I beg to differ. Its perfect for the street; A truly no compromise solution.

And last I will leave you guys with this in honor of the Mini craze that went around a while ago

Default welcome to the ohlins club!

You are hereby admitted to the ohlins club! It takes alot of faith to buy something that expensive without a test ride. It's also very tough to describe just how great the suspension is.

If you're going home brew, with larger maf, I doubt you'll have room for the canisters in that location. Take a look at my pics. I installed them behind the firewall to keep them out of the hot engine bay.
