Default STFA-no luck. Passport 8500 hardwire question.

Sounds like most installs for this were done by using the vacant fuse or tapping into the map light. Has anyone used the wire tap that was included with the smart cord direct wire to wire from the fusebox? If so, which wire did you tap into? Any problems?

Thanks.

Just use a spade connector and plug it into the rear window wiper fuse.

Default Now I'll sound dumb...

Can I buy this at Radio Shack? Any special requirements for the connector, or just a standard spade connector? Will I have to modify the cord that came with direct wire kit, or will it plug directly into the spade connector?

Default Yes you can buy it at RadioShack, no special requirements. You'll have to crimp the spade connector

onto the power lead for the hardwire kit. I also used a ring connector on the ground wire.

You don't even need to tap that, it can all be done without taking anything apart.

Default I used the 75x post under the kick panel.

I have my radar detector as well as the power for my boost gauge light on there.

No problems to date.

but it's cleaner that way. Who wants to see wires tapped out of the fuse box?
