Default StopTech rotors--race track and street

We used Pagid RS-14 pads this last weekend at California Speedway for the first time.......very impressive. Not only did they stand up for 2+ hours of high speed endurance racing, but showed exceptionally low wear. They were .705" thick new and were worn down to .505" after about 2hrs. and 15 min. The most important feature proved to be the rotor finish. The pads we had been using for quite sometime were not as rotor friendly as the Pagids. After the race (we bedded in the pads with new rotors), the finish, which normally is pretty rough after a race was perfectly smooth with no signs of burnishing, galling, or heat spots. We never felt any "warpage" or pad material transfer. The brakes worked just as good at the end of the race as they did at the start. There was no evidence of light cracking whatsoever.

I would give a suggestion to those of you who run StopTechs or even stock brakes on the track...always use a performance brake pad for track use. These cars are very heavy and the stock pads just won't take the heat...they transfer too much material to the rotors. The Pagid RS-2 might be a good street pad.

Our new brake ducts certainly helped.....normally, the backing plates of the pads show evidence of extreme heat. The upper pad in the photo is the Pagid after 2 hrs 15 min. at California Speedway. The bottom pad is another brand we used for 2 hrs. and 15 min. at Daytona. Our new ducts were installed after Daytona. The rotor paint showed temperatures were significantly lower...lower than we had ever seen before.

Thanks again to Ilja from StopTech for his technical contributions at the track.

Don, are you considering a brake duct "kit" for street S4's?

Yes, but the first quote we have gotten for production was too expensive. We are checking out some other facilities.

Default Now are the pad easy to change from Stock to the ones that you recommend?

If so how easy. I've never done it in the S4.
And can you put the stock pads back after using the track pads.

What about the EBC green stuff for the track?
does one have to change the front and the back while at the track?
Thanks.

Don, curious as to whose exhaust manifolds you are running. MTM or Speedtech
