more detailed description
the rattling noise is metal against metal and is best heard in the 2.5k-4k rpm range however can be heard higher than that. it sounds like it might be comming from one of the mufflers but i cant tell for certain. it is best heard while under load.

that's the classic "tea kettle" sound...
I had it before my first turbo failure but NOT before the second one. I know a guy who had his turbos replaced and it was STILL there.
Audi has taken an S4 to pieces 3 times trying to find the cause of this with no success. There is NO hard evidence that this is a problem BUT there is no hard evidence that this is not.
I HIGHLY recommend having the dealer check for a loose heat shield and if they cant figure it out, try to forget it. One guy went damn near insane trying to make Audi fix it and it was hopeless because they couldn't identify it in the first place.
