Default suspension lowering

I was wondering if anyone ever heard of pinching the front spring to make the car lower. What I mean by pinching is taking to pieces of metal and screws and clamp/pinch one coil of the spring. If you have a question as to what I mean please ask. I searched the forum to no avail.
If you know what I'm talking about let me know what you think of it.
Thanks,
eric martin

Default Sounds almost as ghetto as cutting the springs. If you want to lower the car, do it right...

get aftermarket springs and shocks.

What happens if your peice of metal breaks during a hard corner and the spring pops up? You may find yourself out of control and off the road pretty quickly.

Default I know what you're talking...

IT'S STUPID! Why would you want to do that? If you want the car lowered that badly just spend the $250 and buy a set of H&R lowering springs.
Please don't do anything like "pinching" together two coils. Not only is it really dumb but it absolutely destroys the spring rate and is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS! IF you think you can fabricate "pieces of metal and screws" that have the strength to withstand the forces in that area, well do I have a bridge for you... Don't you think that the Audi engineers spent a fair bit of time designing those springs?

Default I just wondered because my friend bought a kit for 8 dollars that does that.....

wouldn't it be easier than putting new springs in?

Default Put a 500 lb. bag of cement in the trunk and some 100 lb. dumbbells in the engine compartment. That

will lower the car.
