Default Swapping in K04 Turbos...

Ok...so I've been doing searches on the topic of just swapping in just K04s and no other hardware. I haven't really been able to find any definite answers as to whether or not this will work. Now, what I'm really looking for is being able to run my X chip and not worry about my turbos every 5 mins.

I'm assuming that the K04 would be able to handle pretty much everything you can throw at it...so with everything else unchanged...will simply swapping K04s in work? Or at the most will there just need to be software changes?

TIA

you need downpipes, exhaust, and probably a clutch

Now is this just to get it to work? I'm really just looking for a "more reliable" turbo solution...not necessarily a 400hp beast...that will come later ;-).

Default what she said will make it more reliable and they're things to do while you have everything apart.

change your rear main seal while you're at it and inspect the trans input shaft seal.

Ok...so it will work then right? What about the issue of the software, will I need to make any changes?

Default Get yourself a 5bar fuel pressure regulator from MachV

It is a piece of mind and will give you enough fuel to support a K03 chip.

Default you don't HAVE to change the software, but if you don't want to

max out your fuel injectors, you should upgrade. it'll be nice to take advantage of the k04's. everyone who's done it just finds themselves looking for a nicely tuned package for like when they had k03's...just warnin' ya

Awesome...thanks. Yeah, I'm sure the itch to take advantage of their potential will be there...but for right now at least...I just want something that won't pop on track days.

Anything else I should consider with regards to the fuel system? Fuel pump maybe?

Default it will work...

i've run just k04's w/ stock software...but i do suggest getting a 5bar FPR...you may run a bit lean on the top end especially w/ an x-chip....talk to ming2.7t in the a6 forum...he has run this exact setup....
