tales from extensive road trip number one in my new S4
We decided to drive from Maryland to Nova Scotia (about 1200 miles each way, give or take), so I got to know my Silver/Onyx 6-speed a little bit better, you might say. The car is definitely a treat to drive at highway speeds, cruising at 80 or 85 without any effort at all, but I still can’t help but think there is a bit of an alignment problem. I remember reading here that the so-called “pull to the right” was an illusion, but it sure happened a lot, but not always. Hmm. Another piece of good news was that I managed to get an average of 26.5 mpg on the whole, trip, which included lots of sight-seeing, a nice segue to…another great thing. If you want to take your S4 on a test of its ability, drive the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It consisted of great mountainous, twisty track, with excellent views to boot. Less challenging, but with nice views, too, was Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. (Yeah, we went everywhere!) Average speed, including lots of miles going about 20-25 in the National Parks, was 55mph, so I can’t complain about that, either. As for Audi spottings, I saw one TT, several A6’s, and your typical bunch of A4’s, one of which looked to have an S4 badge on the grill. Hmm, was anyone in the New York City pulling a fast one on us? Not one S4 was spotted. The Canadians loved my Red Wings plate, though they probably didn’t like the xenons much, heh. One thing to complain about (thankfully it is fixable) is that darn it-takes-two-depressions-of-the-remote-entry-to-pop-all-the locks thing. Let’s pick another nit. I wish the sun visors had the extenders on them, because when the passenger seat was all the way back, the sun still could blind a guy. Seats were very comfortable, even after up to 12 hours of traveling. Not a bad break-in for a car, even though it had 2500 miles on it when we left. Oh yeah, the trunk hold a lot more stuff than you might think ;-) I saw the mpg indicator go up to 110 once, which was amusing. Another “hidden” option I enjoy is the extendable steering column. That came in a handy, especially when employing cruise. My worst complaint is that we didn’t see one damn moose, even driving the length of Maine, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia! One last complaint – they really should have gone to a 12-disc changer (or at least 10) instead of 6. That was a minor pain in the culo.<p>Kevin

Think the double click is design; saftey.
Don't have my S4 yet but my A4 does not have the feature. My Q45 in Japan did; single - drivers; double - all.

Nice trip. I live close to Bar Harbor and have driven in the park many times. It's a nice drive. Waiting for my 2001 S4 and driving my wifes TT when she isn't around.
