Default Talking about bad luck: Radiator mistery resolved

Hi,
some of you will remember my post 3 days ago breaking down with a leaking radiator. Well, they found the cause yesterday (and replaced the radiator):
It was a pair of pliers that must have fell into the space between the fan and radiator, the fan smashed it in the radiator, leaving a little scar that deteriorated over the week and finally broke open.
That pair of pliers was mine ( I installed a boost gauge last weekend). So no warranty, a $818 joke. The dummest thing I have ever done (on a car).
But that was not the end of bad luck, because I had been stuck in Columbia (SC) for two days, I was so eager to get back home (Atlanta) that I was caught speeding on the way back (Valentine wasn't fast enough: instant on), which resulted in another $100. Talking about one hell of an expensive weekend.
I know what I am working for now.

How did they know it was your pair of pliers? Did they realize you worked on the boost gauge?

Default Re: They found the pliers still stuck inbetween the radiator

They told me to make sure I talked to the last mechanic that worked on my car, to get my money back. That mechanic was me, so I staid honest and told them.
If I wanted to be an ***, I could have tried to sew the people that did the last service on my car, but I have a real good relationship with them so that wouldn't have benefit me in the long run.

Default Yeah, I didn't want to imply a con for a free service, It's just that I work on cars....

alot and if I ever go into a dealership or repair place they treat you like a total idiot, especially audi/bmw places around my area. Some of them can't conceive the fact that you would go in and install something related to your engine, that's why I asked.

Sorry you had to shell out all that cash. Even when I have a tool stand next to me I find myself leaving an allen wrench or something in a place it shouldn't be and then find it before I close the hood. Terrible feeling when you know you could have driven of with that in there.
Later,
MIke

Default Re: They weren't too upset with it . Told me I wasn't the only one it happened to.

The only upside is that I got to drive the Allroad for three days. Great car, very roomy but too heavy. Also the steering is way too light.
Made me realise that the S4 was the right choice for me.

Default The steering should be the same between the Avant and the regular S4, right....

I guess i could understand that the allroad would show a bit more understeer and a little more cushiony for lack of a better word.

Re: yes, they are the same. The 2.7T just doesn't show as much ***** in the heavy Allroad (Tip)

trying to figure out WTF the damn thing wouldn't latch. Black phone on the black engine covers... duh!
