Default Thermal coatings and our brakes, lets discuss.....

without researching this to much I was thinking today (while installing some brakes) why not coat the non-swept areas of the rotor and the caliper with heat dispersant coating.

Is this done and I am just in the dark about it? If it is done are there enough benifits to out weigh the cost?

I see no reason why a coating designed to shed heat wouldnt help a system that is plauged by heat. Or am i backwards in my thinking and it would adversly effect the system by not allowing the rotor hat and edges plus the caliper to pull heat from the pads and swept area.

Default as far as rotors go, IMO anything that changes the tempurature across the disc is bad...

...managing the difference in heat would likely be more of an issue then just managing the heat in general.

For this same reason, I am against any kind of coating on the discs (zinc/cad plating), you're changing the metal composition, and as a result its heat properties.

As for the caliper, if you have a heat issue, you can just run air ducting to it (NASCAR), or water cool it (WRC/JGTC).

There maybe a problem if you have one piece rotors, since one part will cool and heat up while the rest would not. That could cause warp rotors. I think that was one of the reasons they made 2 piece rotors.

just my 2 cent.

BTW, "heat dispersant coatings" are promotional snake oil. Don't fall for them.

What about Jiffy Lube's "Blinker Fluid Flush Service"? I paid $29.99 for that and didn't net any hp

Default Next time read the sign!

That only makes your blinker faster. It doesn't give you more hp!

What drops are you referring to? And what coating were you using?
