Thinking of buying a used 2000 S4... what to look for?
Searched already, but I'd love some up-to-date opinions on what to look for personally, and if I get to the level of having an Audi tech inspect the car...
The car's a 6 speed. thanks, -Alt |
Still as happy with my 2000, as the day I bought it.

a warranty
|
my bad... "a used S4 from a private owner"... not dealer
|
still, try to get it under the warranty miles or time frame if possible.
Then beat the crap out of it and get everything brand spankin new.
I'm not saying I did that, just thats what I would do. |
for a used S4, my experience is best to buy from dealer.. here is why
If you buy if from an Audi Dealer, which i prefer. This way the Audi mechanics have looked it over and inspected it top to bottom (supposed to) and give it the "Audi Assured" Pre-Owned vehicle sticker stating that this vehicle is in TOP Condition for resale. Also if you get from a Dealer, you can purchse the extended warranty (which i prefer) this will save you so many headaches later after your 3 year / 50k mile warranty has ended. If there are any problems you can bring it back to them.
I bought my S4 used with only 12k miles on it, fully assured and covered by the 3 year warranty and an additional 3 year warranty added onto it. There was nothing wrong with the car, it was in perfect condition. Some people will be split between Dealer / Private Owner delima.. Good Luck.. Let me know if you have any further questions.. I appreciate both your posts! Thanks guys...
what you said makes sense. I've put so much money into keeping my Z in top form that I can understand what you're saying quite painfully :)

Private owner can still have warranty, and you should not buy without one!!!
Two ways a private owner can have a warranty: 1)miles & time left on factory warranty; or, 2) owner purchased an extended warranty from a non-Audi source, as I just did. Follow this forum for a while and you will see REPEATED warnings to NOT OWN AN S4 WITHOUT A WARRANTY. Reason: repairs can be frequent, expensive, or both. Like $10K for a new 6-spd, $6K for a used one, and if you plan to drive the car hard, the manny tranny is a prime prospect for failure.
If the current owner doesn't have a warranty, you can shop for one yourself, and that can take a while. Try a "search" & you should come up with numerous entries. Make sure turbos & AWD are covered. |
thanks for the advice!

Here you go, used with warranty
