For those got the technique and consistency to launch their S...questions!!??
Before trying to launch your S, did you have previous experience w/ drag/street racing in other cars? for how long?
for those that S4 was the 1st car to learn how to launch right and practice on the 1/4mile time, how long did it take you to get the launch right? after how many days or launches? and did you, by accident, dip-fry a clutch or break a tranny?

My experience:
I am a road racer first and foremost, but began street racing in my three-quarter ton chevy truck as a way to have fun with cars while off the track and to make a little extra cash. It had a nitroused big block in it and only ran high 13's. From there I did some street racing in my LT1 camaro. Never had any big money races, but got pretty good at getting out of the hole on street tires. I've had experience driving other people's cars; everthing from fox-body mustangs to hondas. The S4 is one of the easier cars to launch, however the 1-2 shift is much more difficult.
I'd say it took me about 10 launches before I was confident that I could perform a good launch if I had to in any situation. Most of the time while street racing I try to take it easy out of the hole and keep that one car length lead till the finish. I've had some pretty narly launches though. Example: I gave some bottle-fed honda 5 flying and had him burned down by the 1/8th.
I wrote a faq about launching. You might find it in a search. My name then was Pat-SoCal-S4Avant.
Good luck.

Alright, found it:
It sure is nice to have the "SEARCH" function working again.
Oh, and the launch write-up could use a little polishing, but you should get the jist of it; and the videos aren't working anymore since the server is down, sorry.

Old launch write-up I did.

I could say Im pretty consistant. S4 is not as easy as everyone may think.
Too high on the revs and your wheels spin, too little you bog. Heavy car with lots of torque = beginners worst nightmare.
However, launching at high revs is a lot better than bogging, which in most cases can be humiliating
It just takes a lot of practice and track testing to get your launch down and consistant.
I managed to get a 1.9 60' time w/ a 14.0sec @ 98.8 mph on all THREE runs. Slow? Perhaps, consistant? Oh god yes! =)
