Default for those with H&R sport springs...

I'm thinking about lowering my car and H&Rs are my first choice. I wanna do coilovers, but don't have the $$$. What is the approx. cost of H&R sport springs + installation . What's the drop? 1.4" F and 1.4" R ? would I need shocks too or are stock fine? How about ride quality? I appreciate your inputs, thanx

Default That just doesn't sound right to me...

you want to upgrade your suspension but you cannot afford the extra money to get the application you really want - coilovers. You paid 40k+ on the car, and you can't save up the extra 800 bucks or so for coilovers? C'mon now - suck it up and get the coilovers if that's what you want.

So? - if you don't have a job - get one - then save up for coilovers.

Default Love'em! But you need to get shocks...go Bilstein...

<center><img src="http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/31/31428/wheels.jpg"></center><p>...cost for install will be around $250 to $400. You definitely need aftermarket shocks.

Ride quality is a bit stiffer than stock but handling is improved.

You do not need COs. Aftermarket springs and shocks do just fine.

Default H&R springs are a great way to go,

the advertised drop is 1.4F 1.3R. Ride quality with the stock shocks feels under-dampened at higher speeds. But its not that bad. I have the H&Rs with stock shocks. I will probably end up getting shocks if we keep the S4 for a while, but it doesn't bother me too much now. I wouldn't get the coilovers unless you are racing.

Call Luke tire rack regarding pricing. As far as install, just call around. I found a range of install pricing from $125-$650. You just have to find the right place that is experienced.

Here's a summary of suspension options for the S4:
spring FrontDrop/RearDrop FrontSpringRate RearSpringRate
Stock 0/0 348 292
Vortrag Coilovers adj. 600+ 600+
H&R Coilovers adj. 400+ 450+
MTM/Eibach 1.0/1.0 460 400
H&R Sport Springs 1.4/1.3 490 450
Neuspeed Race Springs 1.5/1.25 400 350
Eibach Pro Kit Springs 1.0/1.0 360 270
Vortrag 1.2/1.0 250 500
Intrax 1.4/1.0 ? ?

This was a while ago, so some specs may have changed.
