Thoughts on how a chipped engine and a chipped tip perform on the track...
I actually have a track car, but I just wanted to see how my daily driver would be on a road course.
I brought my S4 up to our local track here in MN "BIR". It is a highspeed 3 mile road course with 10 turns and a 1 mile straight. Fast track.
Last year with the car stock except engine ecu, I thought the car to be unresponsive to shift inputs, so I bought a chip for my tip this year.
I'm sad to say that I'm disappointed in the complete package. Don't get me wrong, I think ths car is the Best Bang for me, but for even an occassional track car it is not, dare I say better for drags than a road course? I understand the Porsche "tip" is definetly better and more responsive stock!
A 6 speed is the way to go if you drive on the track alot. But for everyday driving and heavy traffic, there is nothing better than a slightly warmed over tip! I think it is even quicker than a 6 speed in traffic and easier to drive. I guess I'm getting lazy, as I've driven sticks all my life, and I'm an old fart.
Anyways, that's my .02 worth.
Y2K, Silver/Onyx, Tip
APR Engine ECU
GIAC "Race" Tip ECU
Everything else is Stock
All Options, but Phone

Opinion....
I run both GIAC chips. The results they produce are worth it. Much quicker, much more positive shifting. It does not turn the tranny into a rock hard shifting track ready car, nor did I expect it to. I agree with silvertip, go manual if you are looking for something for the track. But if yours is a daily driver and have to contend with traffic and went for the automatic.... get both chips and you will love the difference.
