Throttle hesitation, surging, "3/4 throttle phenomenon", etc. - read this (long)
I recently found a string of posts on the VAG-COM chat on Yahoo, that had some very interesting information that, to date, I have never heard anyone on the AW boards talk about. The problem that was being discussed was uneven idle and uneven throttle delivery. According to the author, the Bentley manual suggests the following - after performing a throttle adaptation (with the person posting indicated should be done with the car not running and cold, though others have told me the Bentley manual indicates this should be done warm), one is supposed to warm up the car, and then do a "basic settings" in Engine 01, group 000 with the engine running and warm. Group 000 shows ten different variables, where I believe either field 4 or 5 shows the throttle angle at idle.
Having had some irregularities in throttle response I tried this technique (while not the problem I have had, I am wondering if the "¾ throttle phenomenon" may be able to be fixed with this technique as well.) I still need to get more miles under my belt, but first take is that my power delivery curve is significantly smoothed out. Does someone have a Bentley manual that they can confirm or provide info on this with, and if so, can you enlighten as to the details of what the group 000 "switch to basic settings" adaptation does exactly. I did note in doing the 000 adaptation that ten variables come up on the screen, at least one of which (field 4 or 5) is supposed to be the angle of throttle plate at idle. And clearly, if someone has irregular throttle problems, and this works, lets get the data on the table.
If you want further info, email me.

I have a solution...
...it costs 50 cents and about 10 minutes worth of driving/testing...

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/475645.phtml</a

Measuring Block 000

Here are the data fields for Measuring Block 000 (from Bentley). Did a cursory look, but didn't see any mention of what happens when you run "basic settings" on this block.
I'll give it a try and let you know if anything interesting happens.
