Torched an M3 last night
I must have scared the crap out of this M3 last night hear I am in his rear view mirror with my Audi wagon and I passed him like he was standing still. It helped that I was at full boost at the time. Those cars are not that fast are they. I would be so embarrased if a station wagon passed me while I was driving a nice ride like that.

I don't know what year it was but he punched it and I>>
walked away from him. I bet it was a rebadged 318 because it wasn't even close. I have an S6 Avant but never the less.

Something was wrong, as even a well driven (hint) E36 M3 is faster than an S6 Avant, but not by...
much. I'm going for rebadged or automatic M3, or just a really bad "M" driver.

Sure from a stop, the M3 will take him for a while, but...
From a roll the S6 will walk on the E36 M3 good driver or not. Esp., if the S6 got the jump...
Agreed, to kill him like he said it must not have been an M3.

I have driven an S6 abut 40 laps of Road America and on the street. Very nice car, but I was....
that impressed with the speed. My S4 ran (six lengths from 60-130) away from the S6 on a roll, and killed it in the 1/4 by about ten-12 lengths (he ran a 14.1 at 99.67mph, I ran a 13.120 at 105.91 - both cars on 100 octane).
I would put my money on the E36 M3 still, but not by much.

That's not a fair comparison, nor by any means a good measurement to base the S6 against an E36 M3..
What would I rather have? The M3 of course, but I would still get walked on by the S6 from a roll.

I he was cruising, he was probably in the wrong gear (m)
I owned an E36 M3 before. It is a slightly slower car than S4 Avant (that's what I have now), more so at low and medium rpms. But at the high end it feels stronger.
Your competitor was probably cruising in the 2k-3k range, if you caught him by surprise. From that range an M3 does not accelerate very well. He either had to downshift, or didn't bother to, but in both cases losing the precious time.
